Okay, I will not say any of those things however, no one can give you a proper assessment over the internet. I would be over-cautious in this situation given her past history and just take her to the er or urgent care because you don’t want to fool around with something that has the potential to be life threatening. Based on the vague symptoms you described there are so many possibilities that come about. Honestly, there is no way anyone can render a correct diagnosis without a full physical examination!

It sounds to me like she is either bound up or will be. See when the last time she had a bowel movement was.. if it has been a while get her a fleet and see if that helps and if not then she may have to go to the doc’s only because she could be impacted which can lead to horrible things if untreated. But you can probally fix it from home I am sure.

she needs medical assistance immediatley. call your doctor first. or call the hospital and ask to talk to a nurse and they will tell you whether this is a serious situation or not.

I don’t have personal experience with addiction to pain killers, but a close family member has been on a very similar plan of medication for 5 years for injuries sustained in a construction accident.

From what I learnt with him, is that you can get addicted to pretty much all pain killers, particularly over the time period we’re talking about. His were changed around fairly frequently to avoid this, but after a few months, you’ve tried every alternative and then have to go back to the start, but yeah, after that long, the body adjusts to the regular intake of various things and in that sense is “addicted”.

I think as long as the dosage isn’t being unnecessarily increased, and the need for the medication is still there, then she should definitely maintain her current dosage. She may need some support coming off the medication if/when the need is no longer there.

See a doctor immediately.

This combination of medications has numerous cumulative side-effects, each being hard to see distinctly in the ‘fog’ of chemicals in Sheree’s bloodstream. In fact some of these medications will not work to their full effect when taken in combination with some of the others.

It certainly sounds that she is ‘dependant’ on medication but that doesn’t mean to say she is ‘addicted’. One is physical, the other is psychological. And if she was ‘addicted’, she would either not know or be in serious denial.

On such a brief summary, it is impossible to diagnose, but I would say that the odds are good that even if she is not addicted now, she most likely will be, after a period of time, perhaps another six months or so.

As you are a friend of hers, I would suggest two things:

Firstly, raise the point (diplomatically) that some of these medications just work work when taken in combination with others.

Secondly, raise your concerns over the volume of medication she takes, but using the word ‘dependant’ rather than ‘addicted’. It is far easier for Sheree to accept the former word than the latter.

Thirdly, encourage her to talk the matter over with her doctor, but be gentle and subtle as you can.

Ultimately Sheree has to accept that she has to act herself.
